4th Annual Tour de Scottsdale Draws Hundreds of Cyclists
70-Mile Bike Race Benefits Environment, Families

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – On Sunday, Oct. 14, nearly 800 cyclists crowded Market Street at DC Ranch in north Scottsdale for the fourth annual Tour de Scottsdale – Building Trails, Building Families, a 70-mile bicycling event. The swarm of cyclists pedaled their way through five Valley cities including Scottsdale, Phoenix, Cave Creek, Carefree, and Fountain Hills before racing to the finish line at DC Ranch, to benefit two local charities, Rebuilding Together and the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy.

This year, the top three cyclists in the men’s category were Eric Salstrand of Phoenix, finishing first overall at 2:46:49; Daniel Vasicheck, coming in second; and Bill Koenig of Scottsdale, third. In the women’s category, Heidi Clayton of Phoenix finished first overall at 2:50:59, Christine Phillips of Chandler finished second, and Sherri Bajer of Scottsdale took third.

“The Tour de Scottsdale has become a tradition among cycling enthusiasts because of the exquisitely scenic and challenging course and the event extras that set this event apart from other tours,” said Melinda Gulick, DC Ranch Town Manager. “We enjoy sharing our beautiful community and our commitment to healthy lifestyles, families and the environment through this event.”

In addition to the 70-mile ride, this year’s event also included a 2.5-mile Family Fun Ride and the Tour Expo, which provided a festive atmosphere of cycling fashion, a beer garden and wine bar sponsored by San Felipe’s Cantina, food, music and fun on Market Street.

The Tour de Scottsdale was sponsored by DC Ranch, a north Scottsdale community that offers architectural excellence and life-enriching programs.

Proceeds from the Tour benefit the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, a non-profit organization committed to preserving the McDowell Mountains and the Sonoran Desert, and Rebuilding Together, the nation’s largest volunteer home rehabilitation organization. Appreciation is extended to Tour sponsors including DC Ranch Community Foundation; the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau; the City of Scottsdale; Marriott’s Canyon Villas at Desert Ridge; Bicycle Showcase; Circle West Architects; Market Street; Chipotle; San Felipe’s Cantina; and Southwest Ambulance.

The Tour was produced by DCB Extreme Adventures and sanctioned by USA Cycling, an organization that promotes and governs different disciplines of the sport, and works to build the sport of bicycle racing, assist with athlete development and sustain international competitive excellence.
